Last Minute vs The Chiefs
This game was impacted the most by weather. The Chiefs were able to get on the board first and their defense stuffed Last Minute maintaining the shutout. Both teams struggled to get a passing game going early on with heavy rain and some wind. Last Minute, who can normally rely on their run game, was unable to get the running game going and was forced to the air. The Chiefs on the other hand, rely more on the passing game, While it wasn’t pretty they were able to connected enough to get points on the board.

Lenys Crew vs Good Times
Lenys Crew did a nice job taking what Good Times would give them, they were able to get a their ground game going against a normally stout front from Good Times. With the weather clearing up a bit, the passing game started to open up...as well as the Lenys Crew offense. Lenys controlled the game from the get go, stopping the normally strong running game of Good Times and coming up with key stops when Good Times was forced to go to the air. The game was very physical on both sides as the final spot in the championship game was up for grabs. Lenys Crew was able to build a large enough lead to secure the game and cruised into the championship

Leny’s Crew vs The Chiefs
This is the game we predicted, the previous two 8v8 full field champs, Lenys Crew in Spring of 2014 and the Chiefs in Fall 2014. Both teams have much different styles but in a weird way are very similar. Both have gunslinger QB’s known for their big arms and freewheeling style of play. Both teams have great athletes across the board and both have good O and D lines.
Typically Lenys Crew relies on its defense to force opponents QB’s into bad throws and the secondary takes advantage. Lenys usually has a pretty strong run game with some good play action passes off of them. Typically the Chiefs like to spread teams out, work some quick passes and force the defense to play sideline to sideline before striking downfield.
Both teams have slightly different recipes but typically end up with similar results. The playoff preview prediction was a close one -- "Chiefs winning because they were able to convert more PAT’s than Lenys." That part is true, the Chiefs did convert more PAT’s than Lenys because they scored more, a lot more! This game was less about Lenys Crew playing bad, they didn’t play terrible, the Chiefs just played lights out!
The tone was set early as the Brandon Stewart, from the Chiefs, took the opening kickoff back to the house. Lenys Crew was able to answer and the game was tied. The Chiefs were able to answer and the game looked like it would be a shootout, but the first half ended without any more scores. But the Chiefs D made some halftime adjustments and came out of the gate in the second half throwing haymakers.
Their D-line, with JoJo, T.A. and K.O. really got after Lenys Crew. There were able to cause a strip fumble on an option play that they returned for a TD, building a 2 score lead. Next offensive series for Lenys, Bryan Pomper tried to connect with Andy Evans, it was a pretty good pass, but the Chiefs were able to stick their hand in and popped the ball up, and boom, pick 6. Now the Chiefs were up by 3 scores, and things weren’t looking great for the Crew. The next series Lenys got some traction, moving the ball a ways before the Chiefs came up with an INT. The defense was absolutely playing one of the best games of the season. The Chiefs offense on the other hand, relative to the defensive performance, had a pedestrian day, throwing for two TD’s, one to Erik Kruse and another to Demetri Huffman. Their offense did finally seem to find a stable O-Line, led by Greg Turner who was a beast on the line. But the Chiefs D and special teams really played at another level and was clearly the difference in the championship game. Whats the old adage? offense wins games but defense wins championships? Hats off to the Chiefs, that makes it back-back Championships in 8v8 and 9v9, only Timeout has accomplished that feat back in 2010 or so.
